Los primeros episodios de EVAR: R, episodios 27 y 28 estan diseņados para comenzar donde el capitulo 26 de la serie original termino. Estos dos, que son presentados en la forma de un prologo en dos partes, presentan los eventos que tuvieron lugar pocos dias despues de la destruccion del 17mo Angel , puestos como trasfondo de la llegada del sexto niņo. Shinji, que se ha acercado a comprender sus dudas interiores (a traves de la confrontacion interna en los episodios 25 y 26), debe enfrentar ahora otro asunto que se ha convertido en el mas importante de sus problemas: La situacion con la segunda niņa Asuka Langley Soryu.

En una nota especial: la palabra "Catarsis," la cual es el titulo del episodio 27, fue elegida por un numero de razones: la primera, ser la traduccion literal de la palabra ("limpieza" o "Purificacion"), y la segunda las connotaciones de la palabra en los estudios de literatura moderna. Para cualquiera de los lectores familiares con los trabajos de William Shakespeare, quiza pueda reconocer el termino como la descripcion del sentimiento de superacion percibido por una audiencia despues del final de una de sus tragedias (Julio Cesar, Romeo and Julieta, Hamlet, etc . . .).

Aqui es donde verdaderamente comienza En el episodio 29, hallamos el fin del prologo y el verdadero comienzo de nuestra historia. De los dos nuevos personajes introducidos, uno es por supuesto, el sexto niņo--un chico Ingles de ascendencia mezclada--mientras que el otro es su "Enlace" o "Guardian", una mujer Japanesa trabajando para una organizacion solo conocida como "UNSynapsis" que parece tener una agenda propia. Mientras los episodios avanzan, hallamos tres conflictos simultaneos teniendo lugar dentro del circulo emocional de los pilotos de EVA, asi como en numerosas relaciones que existen afuera de ese circulo. Shinji, que ha aceptado la muerte de Kaworu, es forzado a confrontar una situacion similar con el sexto niņo. Asuka, mientras tanto, aunque ha logrado salir un profundo pozo emocional, tiene todavia muchos conflictos que enfrentar, el mas dificil de ellos su rol como piloto de la unidad 02, y el comienzo de una confrontacion con sus propios sentimientos por Shinji.

Rei Ayanami, mientras tanto, se halla viviendo una vida que verdaderamente no conoce, como un clon el mundo de Rei II . . .

Despues de un incidente involucrando a la Unidad 06, y la subsiguiente partida de Seyoko, Lyn Anouilh, el sexto niņo, se halla a si mismo solo entre muchos, en una ciudad de gente con las cuales parece el no puede relacionarse del todo. Todo esto cambia, sin embargo, despues de conocer finalmente al remitente de los misteriosos mensajes de computadora, una igualmente misteriosa pero abiertamente carismatica chica con el nombre de Aoi Tamashii, el tercer nuevo personaje que es introducido a la serie. Despues de su encuentro, pronto aprende que la chica, que ha estado en Tokyo 3 desde la aparicion del tercer angel (hace tantos meses atras) ha tomado un distinto interes en el. . . Mientras tanto, durante el segundo viaje escolar, Shinji y Asuka una vez mas se hallan lanzados cada uno a la compaņia del otro . . . una situacion embarazosa, considerando que ellos tambien estan en la compaņia de sus inquisitivos (y altamente comicos) compaņeros de clase. Tambien entre esos que se unen a ellos hay otro nuevo personaje, un niņo llamado Goro Tezuka.

Con su retorno de un lluvioso (pero de todas maneras excitante) viaje escolar, Shinji Ikari y Asuka Soryu soon adjust to what has become the boredom of peacetime . . .

. . . Big Mistake. . . .

It is with a fiery blast that the 18th "Angel", Barakiel, makes its presence known to the people of Tokyo 3; It is a devastating impact which jarrs the EVA pilots once more into action, and the yet-to-be battle tested unit 06 into its very first confrontation. Filled with numerous surprises, these three episodes are connected by several common themes--namely, Rei's dreams, which become an even more integral part of plot as the story progresses. Another common element shared is that of the tempest. The imagery presented here is meant, in part, to reflect nearly all aspects of the storm--from the sights, to the sounds, to the force of the howling wind. And of course, Lyn is at last given a chance to prove himself . . . whether or not he siezes that chance however, is one of the many questions that shall be answered . . .

With the 18th "Angel's" defeat at the hands of EVA Unit 01, life once more turns to a semblance of normalcy for the citizens of Tokyo 3. . . but before the first brick in the rebuilding of the northeastern district can be laid, however, signs of a new threat make themselves apparent--as shown by the sudden "diasappearance" of New Haruna Bay, a port town not too far from the city . . . Although, the event, as it turns out, is far more easily explainable than it would at first seem.
Then again, it is also far more deadly.
As result of having to once more attempt to pilot unit 01, Rei Ayanami is pulled in over her head--and suffers massive mental contamination at the hands of -something- inside the EVA. A clue as to just what that something may be is given upon her awakening--and subsequent behavior--over three days later. What occurs, however, is, to say the least, shocking.
On a special note: This is generally considered some of the best episodes of EVA: R up to this point. It was, in fact, in planning for several months, as it had to be handled perfectly. . . we believe it was, at the very least, handled effectively. As with everything here though, reader, It is in your hands . . .

After the decimation of unit 06 at the hands of the 20th angel, the 6th child finds himself trapped in the deepest caverns of his own subconscious, in a terrifying rosary of self-inflicted introspection. It is with episode 44 that Lyn Anouilh's "dark star," the pain held within his soul that acts as a driving force for his actions, is finally brought to light. For some strange reason, with that revelation comes an immense feeling of guilt . . . Soon after the child's awakening, episode 45 confronts the mysterious and charasmatic Aoi Tamashii, in a lighthearted story filled with darker connotations. Finally, Episode 46 tells of an event that has truly been "a year in the making" for the 3rd Child and those closest to him.

With the reappearance of the second branch on American soil, the designs of both Gendo Ikari and SEELE are thrown into sudden, irrevocable doubt. As the UN attempts to make sense of the situation, Sub Commander Fuyutsuki is sent as a representative of NERV's interests to Berlin, where a conference regarding the said installation is set to take place. Meanwhile, the product of the Ev.N Project will finally be brought to light, when Maya and Ritsuko discover that the creature has, in fact, escaped Terminal Dogma. Making its way to the city above, the being , strangely enough, finds itself driven to find one person and one person only: Rei Ayanami.

Set to the backround of these events, Shinji and Lyn discover something startling about one-another: They share a great many things in common. In an attempt to subdue the pain which threatens to remerge from the very darkest corners of his past, the 6th child will finally open up to Ikari. Their newfound friendship is not destined to truly begin, however, as, in episode 48, the newly rebuilt and retrofitted unit 06 is at last reactivated. It is an event which brings about one of the darkest moments in EVA:R, as the very worst of Dr. Akagi's fears are suddenly and horribly realized. In the pandemonium that ensues, EVA shall once more be pitted against EVA as Shinji Ikari is forced, yet again, to face the prospect of killing one of his own . . .

A very "enlightening" episode of EVA:R, Episode 49 answers many of the questions brought into the fore during the series: among these, aspects of Tenkei, the new Angels, Gendo's ambitions, and Aoi's true purpose are brought into the light. Mere hours before Ritsuko Akagi is to be taken from Nerv for perhaps the last time, she shall be paid a visit by a person who, once, called her friend. As the sheer hoplessness of her situation dawns, Ritsuko shall finally give Misato the information she needs . . or at least some of it . . . before she is forced to face her fate . . . On a special note, this episode segues into what will be the final chapters of EVA:R, with a scene that is, in the very least, somewhat surprising, as it reveals one of the series's best known secrets . . .

Episode 50 of EVA:R is part one of EVANGELION: ANNIHILATION and EVANGELION: RESURRECTION, the final episodes of our story . . .

Part I
As the Lance of Longinous begins its final approach toward Earth, The first signs of mankind's last hour shall slowly become apparent:

A Seperation, a Unison, and All Points In-Between . . .

With Dr. Ritsuko Akagi gone, Maya Ibuki is left to take the helm of what remains of the E-Project . . . this, unfortunatly, includes the first "official" tests of the EV.N A 114 Compliment. During the primary unison trials, however, things do not go as planned--and an incident takes place that raises several questions about the true nature of the child, "Tenkei," among the NERV staff, as well as in the mind of Rei Ayanami . . .
Meanwhile, Aoi Tamashii finds herself once more seeking out the 7th child, Lyn Anouilh. In a single, painful moment, the girl finds herself confronting his continued attempts at avoiding her. As the very vestiges of her intention are played out before his eyes, Anouilh makes a decision that, in the days to come, will affect them both in a way neither of the two would have imagined. . . whether or not what occurs between them is for the best, however, remains to be seen. Meanwhile, With UNSynap's Representative once more walking the corridors of Nerv Central, Misato Katsuragi finds herself in a bind of her own. Unsure of what course of action to take now that Ritsuko is no longer present, Misato finds herself provided a very inconvenient distraction: Seyoko Okazaki. In addition to general inhospitability, it seems that the young Liason has endeavored to get in her way, "nosing around" in places she'd best keep out of. It seems that Seyoko, however, has reason for this . . . although, she is obviously not telling anyone . . .

Part II
It is with a fiery upheaval that the Lance of Longinus strikes earth, bringing with it a wave of death of a degree not seen since the second impact:

A Death of mind, of body, and of spirit . . .

Misato's continued wanderings into to the depths of the Magi's mainframe produce a startling revelation: The truth behind the latest "angel attacks," as well as insight to just what their purpose may be. . . meanwhile, Shinji Ikari realizes he can no longer deal with the pain of what has become true lonliness, and runs away, only to find himself reaching out to ghosts for guidance. Asuka Soryu, once more having lost, is faring no better, as her thoughts turn back to more painful memories once buried. This, in both pilots, is seemingly brought on by overwhelming feelings of inadiquacy and self loathing . . . Worst of all, Rei Ayanami collapses during the second unison trial with Tenkei, as the full horror of the lance's return reveals itself to the people of Nerv and Tokyo 3. Confronted with events far out of her control, Maya Ibuki is forced to make a choice: to concern herself with her own life, or to risk all for the sake of another. Questions of innocence and honor shall be brought to light as the dawn of judgment day finally approaches . . .

Episode 51 of EVA:R is part three of EVANGELION: ANNIHILATION and EVANGELION: RESURRECTION, the final episodes of our story . . .



Part III
With burden of Judgement now set heavily upon her shoulders, Aoi Tamashii must commit the most heinous deed yet put forth before her . . .

With but a touch of the heart, another soul shall be broken . . .

Shinji and Asuka's return to Misato, marred by the same dearth of hope that marked their respective departures, goes on almost unnoticed in light of Katsuragi's startling discovery about Seyoko and UNS, as well as the connection to Seele, and the committee's TRUE plans for Nerv . . . It does not end there, however, as Misato is surprised to find that she and Okazaki share a most unexpected bond. Simultaneously, the children: Ikari, Soryu, Ayanami, and Anouilh find themselves each facing their fears alone . . . and, in a moment of vulnerability, Lyn will seek to confide in Aoi; this proves to be a most unfortunate mistake, however, both for him and for the girl whom he cares for. Asuka's sense of self worth--a mere shadow of what it once was due to her continued 'failure' as an EVA pilot, returns to the surface of her resolve with maddening intensity. Ayanami, still in the hospital as result of a brush with a third death, will find herself confronting the 22nd angel alone. Shinji, finally, will at last be forced to face his innermost guilt, as forces beyond his understanding twist and distort his fragile mental state . . . Misato's search for the truth will finally reach the terminal point, as her final delve into the Magi's mainframe reveals the TRUTH behind The second impact, Tenkei and the human complementation program. In the aftermath of her discovery, however, terror will take hold--for it is then that the final struggle for survival , at last, begins.

THE CONCLUSION

Part VI

The Final Episode.

The culmination of our efforts with EVA:R, "How Do You Feel?" was the main goal of the project from its very inception. The question this episode begs is one of choice: Can man be selfless in his actions? Can he choose for the greater good, whilst satisfying his own needs? What of the self? Is man's desire to change for the better an indication of some tragic flaw in his being? This question, of course, raises yet another: the most basic. Is Man inherently good, or evil?

Secondly, "How Do You Feel?" necessitates its own philosophy. One that has been carried throughout both EVA and EVA:R. . .In the end, The world is what you choose to make it. Be you a staunch pessimist or an undying optimist. Our belief, though, is not stated outright. Rather, it is mirrored in the events to be found taking place within the script. It is here, reader, that we beg YOUR interpretation.

Lastly, The English title for this episode, "A Touch of Reality," was inspired by the song of the same name (by Sasha Arnkoff). This song, i n its entirety, reflects the full emotional culmination of the our series. It is also posted here, in eternal gratitude, to Sasha, and to all the people who made this site possible, as well as to all those who have contributed, and will contribute, to Evangelion: R and Evangelion: R'.
